Jupiter Mk II is a Colonial capital ship in Battlestar Galactica Deadlock.

Background[ | ]

The Jupiter Mark II is a refit and redesign of the legendary battlestar class. The first of the original Jupiters, the Galactica, was grounded during the bombardment of Caprica City. The damage sustained during the emergency jump was repaired, including improvements to the hull and armament arrays.

Due to the clandestine nature of the project the design of the Jupiter Mk II carries a number of flaws from its predecessor, including limited networks between subsystems and a restricted thrust-to-mass ratio.

Weapons layout and performance[ | ]

Standard ballistic weapons include Battlestar artillery for the front, top, and bottom, with point defense turrets on the sides.

The ship has a 25% base damage reduction and 100% base subsystem repair rate. Its firewall regenerates at a rate of 100/s.

As an upgrade from the standard Jupiter, the Jupiter Mk II can hold 4 squadrons.

Special abilities[ | ]

The Jupiter Mk II possesses point defense turrets on either side, generating a protective flak field to deter enemy fighters and destroy incoming munitions.

Strategy[ | ]

The Jupiter Mk II is essentially a more durable and versatile version of the Jupiter-class battlestar. Players are encouraged to study the base strategies of the Jupiter prior to employing the Jupiter Mk II, as their mobility is the same, but the Mk II has better firing arcs and a much stronger bow in terms of firepower.

The main advantages of the Jupiter Mk II are thicker armor and more squadron slots than its predecessor, giving it greater flexibility on the battlefield for both offensive and defensive strategies. In spite of the expense, Sweepers and Assault Raptors can enhance the performance of both the Jupiter Mk II and escort ships if used in the fighter/utility or raptor/utility slots.

In the single player campaigns, the Jupiter Mk II is the single most powerful ship available to the player. As such, players may be tempted to build and stock as many as possible onto a high-ranking fleet officer. However, a fleet comprised entirely of battlestars will reduce the speed of the fleet and the accuracy of ranged munitions until they engage effective DRADIS range.

As such, players should pair the Jupiter Mk II with no more than two additional battlestars. Due to the differences in design, contrasting battlestar types (e.g. pairing a Jupiter Mk II with a Minerva) may initially seem like a solid way to balance against individual flaws or adding versatility to a fleet. In practice however, each battlestar class has an ideal engagement style, range, and differing attack speed, making it especially difficult to coordinate a cohesive strategy. If pairing, players should strongly consider using another Jupiter Mk II or original Jupiter, due to their similarities in capabilities.
